My original post of easy bbq sauce is good, but after making it a few dozen times it has evolved into something much tastier. Here is the updated recipe with No High Fructose Corn Syrup or GMO ingredients.
Wet:
1 1/2 cup Hunts Ketchup (no HFCS)
1/4 cup water (or beer)
1/4 cup Balsamic Vinegar
1/4 cup Red Wine Vinegar (opt: Pomegranate Infused)
1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 cup organic Honey (No HFCS)
Dry:
1 1/2 teaspoon Chili Powder (Chipotle for spicier)
1/2 cup organic Light Brown Sugar
3/4 teaspoon Celery Salt
1 1/2 teaspoon Table Salt (sea salt works too)
1 teaspoon Corn Starch
Combine all wet ingredients in a sauce pan, turn on low heat. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Add the dry ingredients to the sauce pan and continually stir for 7-10 minutes until hot.
*For SPICIER sauce - add an additional 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon White Pepper, and 2 Tablespoons of hot sauce (Boars Head jalapeno is good)
*For MILDER sauce - Leave out chili powder and add 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar and 2 Tablespoons honey
*NOTE*
If you add alcohol make sure the wet ingredients come to a brief boil to remove the alcohol and leave just the flavor. Try Jack Daniels Honey
Experiment with this sauce and add or subtract quantities or ingredients to make this YOUR special BBQ sauce.
